The DextrES haptic feedback gloves let wearers ‘feel’ the virtual world through a strategic application of force.
Developed by teams coming from EPFL in addition to ETH Zurich, the DextrES gloves offer a unique haptic feedback system which provides an accurate representation of the virtual world without the bulky equipment. The fingers of the gloves are embedded with elastic metal strips separated by a thin insulator. Applying a voltage difference to the metal strips will cause them to stick together, creating a ‘braking force’ which blocks the motions of the fingers in addition to gives the sensation of gripping an object.
